NRL: All The Odds For Saturday’s Games

April 2nd, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

We’re seeing news that there are some big stars getting back into action in Round Five of the 2014 NRL season, and that will mean we need to take a closer look at the NRL Round Five odds – Sonny Bill Williams will want to make an impact after a few weeks on the naughty step, and there are a couple of guys coming back from injury who will want to get back to form as quickly as possible.

One of them is Dragons fullback Josh Dugan, who will be a potent addition to an Illawarra outfit that has enjoyed a strong start to the 2014 campaign, sitting on six points and at the top of the ladder. Up against the Dragons on Saturday are a Rabbitohs side who have had the sort of early season that makes pundits look foolish: after a great win on their first run out against the Roosters that had more than a few predicting great things from them, the Sydney side have failed to register another win, and are currently languishing down at the bottom of the ladder. They’re still a $7.50 bet to win the Grand Final, mind you – but if they don’t get back to winning ways pretty soon, then that will change. Saturday’s game against the Dragons isn’t the easiest time to kick-start their season, of course, but they go in as $1.75 favourites, while St George Illawarra’s odds are $2.15.

Before the clash between the Dragons and the Rabbitohs on Saturday, there’s a game between Penrith and Canberra that could be a great one to watch. There’s only points difference separating these two over the first four rounds, so this is one of those wins that sees immediate returns in terms of position in the middle of that ladder. In Round Four, the Panthers came back to earth with a bump after their good win over the Bulldogs the week before, but they will feel like Saturday’s game is theirs to win – they’re getting $1.48 to take the points. The Raiders, on the other hand, will bring some good momentum with them into Round Five after a win against the Rabbitohs, so they could be worth a close look at $2.65

Finally, the first game that will hit your TV screens on Saturday afternoon sees the Sharks and Warriors going head to head. Both these sides have had troubled starts to the 2014 season, though you’d say things look worse for Cronulla than for the kiwis. Whilst the Warriors have struggled to find form in the first four games, the Sharks have simply struggled, and it will be something of an upset if the injury-hit Cronulla outfit manage a win over the New Zealand Warriors. The Warriors go in as $1.60 favourites, but it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve been turned over – could be that it’s only Sharks fans taking their $2.35 odds, but stranger things have already happened this season!
