NRL: All Your Round Eight Odds
April 24th, 2014 by TJ DilferThe short turnaround is tough in the NRL. There are few teams who can play the Monday night game and be back firing on all cylinders by the next weekend: it’s a tough game. But there won’t be any excuses over the Anzac Day weekend. The Sharks have it all to do to get their season going, both the Cowboys and the Eeels were involved in controversial results in the last round, and the Bulldogs are out to prove they’re genuine title contenders – it’s going to be a great Saturday’s NRL entertainment, so make sure you’ve got all your Round Eight odds close at hand!
First up, the challenge for the Sharks seems like a daunting one, after a bad start to the season that sees them at the foot of the ladder, with only one win to their name, and that against fellow strugglers the Warriors. But it’s the Panthers who are making the quick turnaround after knocking the Titans off the top perch on Monday. The odds favour the Sharks, with them at $1.77 for the win, but they’re the only side in the NRL without 100 points scored in the first seven rounds, and the Panthers are deservedly in seventh spot on the ladder after showing promise so far, so we’re tempted by them at odds of $2.10.
Both the Cowboys and the Eels saw some headline-grabbing controversy in Round Seven, with a couple of obstruction calls playing key roles in their games. But it’s tough to say that one call makes a rugby game, and both these teams will be looking at an Anzac Day weekend win to improve their positions on the ladder: the Eels want to make a place in the top eight theirs for keeps, and the Cowboys want to move on up: the odds favour them on their home turf, with the North Queensland boys getting odds of $1.51, while the visiting Eels are $2.65.
And finally we come to the side sitting on top of the ladder after seven hard-fought rounds, the Bulldogs. It’s a great opportunity for the Canterbury-Bankstown side to strengthen their credentials at the top of the game and as a real chance for 2014 triumph, but there are some demons from 2013 to exorcise this weekend, too: the Knights beat them three times last year, including in the semi-finals. For their part, Newcastle will be keen to do exactly the same again – they’re starting to look like they could do with the points. The league leaders go into this one as $1.48 favourites, while it’s odds of $2.75 for the Knights.
