NRL: Can Eels Beat $2.80 Odds And Roosters?

April 10th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

What an intriguing season 2014 has been so far! Make sure you get yourself acquainted with all the NRL odds on offer this week – including all the odds for Round Six – because this could be another week of close games and surprising results.

We’ve been taking a look at the ladder, and there are some interesting things going on. More interesting if you’re a statistics fan, in truth, but intriguing nonetheless. It’s the first time since the fifties that a side with a negative points tally has been sitting at the top of the ladder. And if you look a little further down you will see the Paramatta Eels and the Sydney Roosters, and you should be raising your eyebrows a little at their respective positions on the ladder. Going into Round Six, last year’s wooden spoon team are sitting in a tidy 8th spot, on the back of three wins in their first five games, and cursing defeat in a game against Manly that could have been theirs, and that could have seen them sitting pretty at the top of the ladder. There’s a real test of their resurgence coming up, of course, when they take on the Roosters for the second time in a few weeks. The Sydney side were convincing winners in Round Two, but things haven’t gone their way since, and they’re occupying the number 10 spot on the ladder right now. So, as they square up again on Saturday, will last year’s premiers have the beating of 2013’s last-place finishers again? Or is there a genuine Eels resurgence underway than can bag them a win over the Roosters? Paramatta are the outsiders at $2.80, and you’ll get $1.48 for the Roosters.

Elsewhere on Saturday, the Raiders and the Knights clash in a game that could shake things up at the foot of the ladder. This is another replay of a Round Two fixture, and things are pretty much the same for both these sides at they were a few weeks ago – nothing but a win will satisfy them, and they both need that win pretty badly. The Raiders are your favourites according to the bookies, sitting at $1.67, while the Knights are a $2.25 bet. Either way, this could be a really close contest, and we’re looking for it to be decided by only a few points…

Also on Saturday is another match that could be extremely close: the Tigers and the Cowboys are getting tight odds from the bookies right now, with Wests a $2.02 bet and the Cowboys at $1.82. It’s difficult to predict how these two will go at the weekend – and even their form this early in the 2014 campaign doesn’t give us much indication, as they have both been blowing hot and cold. You might have to bet with your heart here – or look at the markets on Sportsbet to see if there’s something that tempts you.
