NRL: Can The Titans Beat The Odds And Stay Top?
April 17th, 2014 by TJ DilferAll your odds for Round Seven of this year’s NRL campaign are waiting for you if you follow the link – it’s been a difficult year to call so far, and one that’s resulted in a ladder topped by a Titans side with a negative points difference!
There will be teams looking to put things right in Round Seven, but the Storm aren’t one of them after their incredible and controversial jailbreak in the dying (or dead?) seconds of Round Six, and a win over the Dragons. Talk about playing right to the end of the game! Round Seven sees Melbourne taking on the Raiders, and looking at $1.68 odds to be a good bet to pile more pain onto Canberra, who are staring down a three-game losing streak if they go down against the Storm on Sunday. The Raiders are getting odds of $2.25 on Sportsbet right now.
And then we’re into Monday and the last couple of games of Round Seven. The Eels will have it all to do against a Tigers side who have been ferocious in recent weeks, coming on particularly strong in the first twenty minutes or so. The Eels go in as $1.44 favourites, though, because if they can weather that early storm, then they should be able to take the points and secure their well-deserved spot near the top of the ladder going into Round Eight. It’s great to see the Tigers and the Eels near the top of the ladder after they propped it up last year, and the Tigers will be desperate to get the win that keeps the pressure on right at the top: they’re a $2.90 bet.
The ladder-topping Titans will have to wait until the last game of Round Seven to see if they can hold onto that top spot on the ladder, but they’ll know that if they can beat their $2.25 odds and take the points from the Panthers, the lead will stay theirs. That’s some pretty good motivation for them – and a win will help that points difference, which is still a bizarrely-popular talking point. Maybe if they stay at the top a few more weeks, the buzz will be about their wins, not about that statistical anomaly. The bookies are tipping Penrith to win this one, though, with odds of $1.68, and they will have been stung by their defeat at the hands of the Rabbitohs last week, and keen to make amends. They’ll have to find a way to break the line against the Titans, though – something they didn’t manage for a whole hour against the Rabbitohs last week – so expect to see a more direct approach on Monday night…
