NRL: Anzac Day Games, Sydney Sides Odds-On
April 22nd, 2014 by TJ DilferAnother round of NRL down and the Titans have lost their top spot on the ladder to the Bulldogs – but only on points difference over three other sides who are right in the scrap for the lead. Last week points difference made no difference, but now it’s all that’s separating the four sides at the top: and the Titans, who haven’t managed to get it back into the black, have taken a drop down to fourth. Make sure you’ve got all your Anzac Day odds by following the link – it’s shaping up to be another great weekend of NRL action!
The round opens up on Anzac Day, and the first of three games is one that could be a real thriller, featuring last year’s Grand Final winners and a Dragons side who are back to winning ways after three defeats in rounds four, five and six. The Illawarra start to the season was the stuff of dreams, with three wins on the bounce to get their fans smiling, but it looked like turning into a nightmare as the next three games turned up defeats. With their season sitting at 3 and 3 and some tricky games coming up, last week’s clash with the Warriors took on real significance. With that win in the bank, the Dragons have to face up to three tough games, against the Roosters at the weekend, then the Bulldogs and Parramatta. First things first, of course: they’re a $2.85 bet to get past the Roosters, who for their part will want to make odds of $1.38 tell, increase their points tally, and go some way to justifying those short odds they’re still getting for 2014 to be a year of triumph…
In other news, karma is clearly a real thing, and it’s only taken a week to come back and bite the Storm, much to the pleasure, no doubt, of Dragons fans, but in the sort of controversial circumstances that will have left some sour faces in the Storm dressing room. Involved in last-minute drama two weeks on the trot, what are the odds that Melbourne will leave it late against the Warriors? They go in as the favourites, with $1.33 odds, but the Warriors could be a bit of a banana skin: they’ve blown seriously hot and cold in the campaign so far, but if they’re blowing hot, then might they be worth odds of $3.10?
Friday night’s NRL action closes with a clash between the Rabbitohs and the Broncos: South Sydney lost a close one to the in-form and now ladder-topping Bulldogs in Round Seven, and will be looking to make amends against a Broncos side who came home easily against the Knights to keep them in a respectable 5th place. The Rabbitohs are the bookies’ pick to win it, and you’ll get odds of $1.72 on them at Sportsbet right now, whilst the odds on a Brisbane win are $2.05.
