NRL Odds For The Auckland Nines
January 22nd, 2015 by TJ DilferThe deadline for the naming of the squads that each of the NRL franchises will field in the Auckland Nines comes around this week, and we’re starting to get a little bit excited about the tournament. One of the things we’ve been doing in advance of that announcement date is checking in on the NRL odds for the Auckland Nines – we’ve had a few squads named, and we’re keen to see how the odds change as more confirmed lists join them.
One of the key things about the Nines is the balance that coaches will be trying to strike between getting their season off to a winning start and protecting key players for what is, after all, a long, hard campaign ahead. Balance those coaches and physios wringing their hands against the NRL’s promoters and head honchos desperate to get the very best players in the league on show in the season-opening tournament, and you’ve got a clash of heads waiting to happen. As fans, we have to say that we hope the NRL comes out on top, as it’ll be a real pleasure to see the best players in action after what feels like a long break.
And in terms of the NRL odds that we’re seeing, it’s the Warriors, who have named a strong squad for the Nines, who are likely to go into the tournament as the favourites. The odds next to their name on Sportsbet as of today are $4.00, ahead of last year’s winners, Queensland Cowboys, who are an $8.00 bet. The Panthers are the only other franchise currently seeing odds of less than $10 – you’ll get $9.00 for them right now. There are plenty of sides in the pack chasing those three bookies’ choices, and it’s a bit of a surprise to see perennial contenders the Rabbitohs at long odds of $31.00, with only the Bulldogs a longer bet at $34.00. Seeing any value in either of those to pull off a surprise?
