NRL: Round Three: Manly Odds $1.22, Storm $1.28, Raiders $1.53
March 19th, 2014 by TJ DilferThe teamsheets are in for Round Three, and the world of the NRL is abuzz with all the talking points generated by another crop of excellent games in Round Two – this is why we love the NRL: all the action is coming thick and fast, and it’s a short turnaround time for all the teams, meaning that the winners from Round Two have the chance to capitalise straight away, and the losers from the previous round are given the chance to bounce back immediately.
One of those sides looking to bounce back is Parramatta, who will need to offer much more than they did against the Roosters when the Sea Eagles come calling. Eels fans could be forgiven for finding nothing positive to take away from a second half against the Roosters that saw 40 unanswered points piled on, but if they can find a way to be more clinical with the opportunities presented to them, then they can be much more competitive in Round Three. If they can’t, then they will make those $4.35 odds look short, if anything, and Manly will make good their own odds of $1.22 and register another win. The Sea Eagles have put their fans through the ringer already in 2014 with a couple of close games, but the bookies aren’t picking this one to be another tense affair. Unless you’re an Eels fan, you might want to think about keeping your money in your pocket – but we’ve been wrong already in 2014, and we’re only two rounds in!
Also on Sunday is a clash between the Titans and the Raiders that both teams could well be targeting for a win. Both these sides are one win from two games, so the result of Sunday’s game could easily put a better complexion on the start of one of these teams’ seasons. The Titans will be especially keen to put in a good strong performance against Canberra in the light of last week’s disappointing display, but they haven’t been helped at all by the injury list. With only a couple of games gone in the season, it’s just bad luck to be scratching around to find a makeshift forward pack, but that’s the situation for the Titans, who are $2.50 to win the game on Sportsbet right now. You’ll get $1.53 for the Raiders to carry on the momentum they built with a win over the Knights last time out.
The final game of Round Three sees the Knights back in action after that defeat by the Raiders, and looking to get their season moving after a couple of false starts. Round Three against the Storm might not be the best chance they get to do that, though maybe they’re hoping the fact that the Melbourne boys have been in two tight results will have left them drained and vulnerable. The bookies don’t think so, and they’ve got the Storm as $1.28 favourites as against $3.70 for the Knights…
There’s lots more to enjoy in Round Three, of course, including three games on Saturday, and both the Roosters and the Rabbitohs in action on Friday night – check out our previews by following the links!
