NRL: Short Odds For Storm, Cowboys and Eagles Both $1.50
April 4th, 2014 by TJ DilferThree of the NRL’s top five teams are in action on Sunday night, making it essential viewing for League fans all around Australia. Then, Monday night sees a crucial clash from the bottom of the ladder – and it won’t just be Cowboys and Knights fans tuning in to watch what could be a really good game: the bookies have it as a clash that could go either way. Make sure you check out all the NRL Round Five odds by following the link, and read on for our preview of the three games coming to you on Sunday and Monday…
First up, let’s take a look at the Storm: unbeaten up until last week’s convincing defeat by the Bulldogs, Melbourne will want to put that firmly behind them and simultaneously leapfrog the Titans, who are sitting just above them near the top of the ladder. The Storm won the clash between these two sides last season, but only by a solitary point, and they looked like they were lacking penetration going forwards without captain Cameron Smith. The Titans will want to continue their good momentum from wins in Rounds Three and Four, but they go into Sunday’s game as $3.75 outsiders. You’ll get odds of $1.28 for Melbourne.
Sunday’s other game is between Wests Tigers and the Manly Sea Eagles – and it’s one that could have us all glued to the telly box! Manly go into the game with an unchanged side (with the possible exception of Glenn Stewart after last week’s concussion), which gives them good continuity. Both these sides were on the wrong sides of their results in Round Four, so expect a lot of action as they come out gunning for the win! The bookies have Manly as the favourites at $1.50 and you can see why after the first few rounds, but write off this Tigers side at your peril! Wests are a $2.65 bet.
Then, on Monday night, Round Five comes to a close with a bottom-of-the-table showdown between the Knights and the Cowboys. Obviously, neither of these sides is without its problems in the 2014 campaign so far – or they wouldn’t be at the foot of the ladder! – but this is a great opportunity for one of them to get things moving in the right direction. You get the feeling that both these sides are a win or two away from igniting their season – Newcastle have been hot and cold, and the Cowboys have suffered from a few critical mistakes at crucial moments – but Monday night is as good a time as any to get started. In terms of betting, the bookies at Sportsbet have the Knights at $2.65 for the win, but the Cowboys as $1.50 favourites.
