Looking at the Racing odds before the race at the weekend, it looked like there would be a strong challenge in 2014 to their historical dominance of the race, and so it proved, but there was more than enough talent on show in McCarthy colours to make the night a roaring success for them – one that showcased an exceptional talent at the same time that it signalled a rising talent for the future.
