Harness Racing Odds: McCarthys Enjoy More QPC Success

November 1st, 2014 by Pom de Turf

It’s a well-documented and long-lasting love affair that the McCarthy stables have with Harness Racing in Queensland, and with the Queensland Pacing Cup in particular. Looking at the Racing odds before the race at the weekend, it looked like there would be a strong challenge in 2014 to their historical dominance of the race, and so it proved, but there was more than enough talent on show in McCarthy colours to make the night a roaring success for them – one that showcased an exceptional talent at the same time that it signalled a rising talent for the future.

The strongest challenge came from local hero Avonnova, who was Read the rest of this entry »

Melbourne Cup Odds: The Prince Is Paid Up

November 1st, 2014 by Pom de Turf

After what really was an eye-catching run in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup last weekend (and a run that caught the eye of Racing Victoria’s Chief handicapper Greg Carpenter), connections of Prince of Penzance have stumped up the cost of a Melbourne Cup entry for their prospect.

But before you can take him into consideration in the Racing odds ahead of Tuesday’s big race, he would have to find a way to Read the rest of this entry »

Harness Racing Odds: Our Hi Jinx In New Zealand?

November 1st, 2014 by Pom de Turf

Even before the Queensland Pacing Cup at the weekend, there was some talk coming out of the McCarthy camp about relative newcomer Our Hi Jinx – talk that focussed mostly on his enormous potential to be a horse that catches the eye in the Racing odds for many races and for a few years to come, but also some talk of a trip to New Zealand in the near future to make a try for the New Zealand Cup.

And it was a fine night for the McCarthy horses, as For A Reason came home to win the Queensland Pacing Cup ahead of Avonnova and Our Hi Jinx. It was Read the rest of this entry »

Melbourne Cup Odds: My Ambivalent Injury Scare

November 1st, 2014 by Pom de Turf

She’s apparently a pretty spirited horse, My Ambivalent, and you won’t catch her doing things that she doesn’t want to do – like setting off for track work at the scheduled time, or following her gallops partner Red Cadeaux when she’s supposed to. But those high spirits will be a relief for trainer David Eustace to see, because My Ambivalent has been through something of an injury scare this week – one that has seen her bobbing in those Racing odds – and if she wasn’t her usual self, he’d have real cause for worry.

As it stands, though, it looks as though Read the rest of this entry »

Melbourne Cup Odds: A Couple Of Horses To Watch

November 1st, 2014 by Pom de Turf

The Melbourne Cup is just around the corner, and there will no doubt be plenty of punters poring over the Racing odds ahead of the big race. Not to mention all those Racing fans who are only Racing fans for the one day a year – all the fans that make the Melbourne Cup the biggest race in the world, and who will be looking to scoop some winnings into the bargain. But who will they be looking at for the 2014 race? We’ve got Read the rest of this entry »

Harness Racing Odds: Themightyquinn Struggles With Injury

November 1st, 2014 by Pom de Turf

It might seem like a little ways off yet, but the Summer Carnival at Gloucester Park, with its WA Pacing Cup (and the glory and the huge prize that go with it) are creeping upon us. So it’s bad news for connections of star Pacer Themightyquinn that injury looks to have thrown his preparations into disarray – and how the injury will be reflected in the Racing odds for the Summer Carnival, we’ll have to wait and see…

Themightyquinn would go into the 2015 Summer Carnival with Read the rest of this entry »

Melbourne Spring Odds: Azkadellia On Target In Carbine

November 1st, 2014 by Pom de Turf

Punters seem to know what they want in the 2014 Carbine Club Stakes that’s looming at Flemington this weekend – by far the majority of the backing has been thrown behind the favourite Azkadellia, and you can see from a look at the Racing odds at the end of the link there that he’s at some pretty short odds of $3.60 as of right now on Sportsbet. If you’re looking to go elsewhere for the Carbine Stakes, then you’ll want to Read the rest of this entry »

Myer Classic Odds: A Classic Clash In Store

November 1st, 2014 by Pom de Turf

Not long now until they jump off in the Myer Classic at Flemington, and there’s still very little to separate May’s Dream and Sweet Idea in the Racing odds we’re seeing ahead of the race – this could be a Myer Classic that’s set up to be exactly that: a memorable tussle between two eye-catching prospects that could go either way…

With May’s Dream the initial favourite but softening, and Sweet Idea hovering with odds not much longer, it looks like Read the rest of this entry »

Harness Racing Odds: Tough Task For Beautide

November 1st, 2014 by Pom de Turf

It’s a truism that you have to take the rough with the smooth when you’re in Harness Racing, but it won’t be a very comforting truism to James Rattray just at the moment: he will have been hoping for a kinder touch from Lady Luck for this weekend’s Nick Robin Free For All. His talented gelding Beautide is fresh from collecting a Horse of the Year trophy, but has seen some tough barrier draws since coming back from a spell, and it’s proving difficult for him to get back to winning ways. Will we see that reflected in the Racing odds for Saturday night’s race, though?

Rattray was happy to Read the rest of this entry »

Melbourne Cup Odds: Penalty For Prince Of Penznace

November 1st, 2014 by Pom de Turf

After he won a handy victory at Moonee Valley in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup, Racing Victoria’s Chief Handicapper Greg Carpenter has seen fit to add a couple of kilos to Prince of Penzance for the Melbourne Cup, pushing him that little bit closer to the race, and more than likely having an effect on those Racing odds for the big day – so why not hit that link there and have a little glance over them to see if you can see any value for you?

And Prince of Penzance wasn’t the only Read the rest of this entry »
