Melbourne Spring Racing Odds: Jockey Tommy Berry Tips Dan Excel

August 20th, 2014 by Pom de Turf

We’ve said before that there will be a little bit of spice added to the Melbourne Spring Racing Festival added by the international flavour of the field, and that’s particularly true of the Cox Plate, with the addition of Dan Excel, a real star making the trip from Hong Kong, and a horse that jockey Tommy Berry is already tipping for success in the race…

A look at the Racing odds for the Cox Plate will tell you that Dan Excel is Read the rest of this entry »

Melbourne Cup Racing Odds: Van Percy In Winning Form

August 20th, 2014 by Pom de Turf

OTI Racing purchased Van Percy back in June with the Melbourne Spring very much in mind, and he returned them a first win in their colours at Goodwood in the UK last month. He will be looking to perhaps race once more on English soil before he makes the trip to Australia for the Spring Season, and you can expect to see him amongst those Racing odds for the Melbourne Cup and other big races, too…

The most pleasing thing for trainer Andrew Balding will have been the Read the rest of this entry »

Get All Your NRL Odds For Round 24

August 20th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

Sport is all about timing, especially over the course of a long, hard season – and they don’t come much tougher than an NRL season. The teams that will still be in contention come finals time are the teams that can find their best form at just the right time. With three rounds to go, it could be that we’re getting to that right time now – there’s no more room for bad performances, and despite what the Round 24 odds might tell you, every game is a massive challenge.

No coincidence, perhaps, that Read the rest of this entry »

Spring Season Racing Odds: Cox Plate For Happy Trails

August 20th, 2014 by Pom de Turf

Last year’s Cox Plate was a difficult one for Happy Trails and especially for trainer Paul Beshara, who was suspended for the race that saw Happy Trails narrowly edged out by Shamus Award, and who will feel like there’s some real unfinished business in this year’s race. As you’d expect, Happy Trails is amongst the Racing odds for the Cox Plate at this early stage, and he’s been Read the rest of this entry »

Melbourne Cup Racing Odds: Silent Achiever Picks A Route To The Cup

August 20th, 2014 by Pom de Turf

Silent Achiever is a horse that comes to the 2014 Melbourne Spring with a great Autumn campaign behind her, and trainer Roger James has already confirmed that she will be aimed at the Melbourne Cup this year. But he faces a choice of how the emerging star gets to the Melbourne Cup – the Cox Plate and the Caulfield Cup are both options, and you’d expect Silent Achiever to feature in the early Racing odds for both…

James is pleased with where Silent Achiever has ended up after a very successful Autumn, he told Racing Ahead: ‘she did have a nice hit-out this morning and it was Read the rest of this entry »

It looks like this year’s Spring Season will feature a Melbourne Cup with a strong international connection – there will be overseas raiders aplenty coming to our shores in hopes of bagging the Cup. The Offer Racing Odds: A Melbourne, Caulfield Cup Double?

August 19th, 2014 by Pom de Turf

We’re a long way out from the Melbourne Spring, and the big races that will be the focus of attention for the press and for most punters. There are already some great stories shaping up, though, and one of them is Gai Waterhouse’s The Offer, who’s a chance to bring Australia’s first lady of Racing a second Melbourne Cup win. But the Melbourne Cup isn’t the only race where the Racing odds feature The Offer prominently: could the talented gelding bring Waterhouse an incredible double by winning both the Melbourne Cup and the Caulfield Cup?

Well, things can Read the rest of this entry »

Racing Odds: The Melbourne Cup On Tour

August 14th, 2014 by Pom de Turf

There aren’t that many folk who get the chance to lift the Melbourne Cup. Owning and training thoroughbreds is an expensive business, though we suppose the rewards on offer are commensurate with the investment. To lift the Melbourne Cup, though, must be worth about as much to the owners and trainers who win it as the cheque is. And with sponsors Emirates taking the Cup itself on tour around Australia and New Zealand, now’s your chance to get a little sliver of what it feels like to lift the famous trophy, and get a photo of yourself with it for good measure!

Not that any more effort is needed to promote The Race That Stops A Nation – if only judging by the early activity on those Melbourne Cup odds – but we think it’s a great idea by Read the rest of this entry »

Racing Odds: Crackerjack King Hits The Melbourne Spring At Last

August 14th, 2014 by Pom de Turf

Crackerjack King is a well-travelled horse. He’s an Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock horse these days, and based in Australia, but collected wins and placing in Italy, the UK and the US before he came to Australia ahead of last year’s Spring Season. He was all set to make an appearance in the Racing odds for last year’s Melbourne Spring, too, but tendon trouble put paid to the whole campaign, and his hopes of a big result in 2013 were dashed.

He’s back to trialling now, though, and trainer David Hayes Read the rest of this entry »
