Racing Odds: A Busy New Year’s Day In Store
December 31st, 2014 by Pom de TurfYou and I might not have big plans for New Year’s Day – beyond the obvious careful recovery and debrief from the previous night, and perhaps a bit of a look at the Racing odds before a busy day’s Racing hits the telly. But spare a thought for all the men and women who will be putting in a big shift on New Year’s Day to make that Racing happen – and it’s a full schedule, too, so there will be lots of them working hard on the day, and excited the night before for reasons other than the ticking off of another calendar year.
Especially busy will be champion jockey James McDonald, who’s looking forward to nine rides in front of a home crowd at Ellerslie in Auckland. Scintillula won’t be one of them, mind you, in the City of Auckland Cup, which is set to be one of the big races of the day. McDonald couldn’t make the weight for that run, so it will be Michael Coleman who rides Scintillula, who’s at odds of $8.50 for the Cup on Sportsbet right now. Ahead of the popular local mare in the betting at the moment are Delago’s Secret at $8.00, King Krovanh at$6.50 and the favourite, the aptly-named Surpass, who’s getting odds of $5.00 as of right now.
Elsewhere, aside from looking out for James McDonald throughout a busy day’s Racing, make sure you check out the Railway Stakes: the favourite at the moment is Bounding with odds of $4.00. There’s more to enjoy, of course, and it could be that a little bet is the best medicine for whatever ails you…
