Racing Odds: Big Bang In Prospect
July 8th, 2014 by Pom de TurfHere’s another name to add to the growing list of hopefuls for the Spring campaign: Eclair Big Bang will be making his preparations and hoping to claim a big race when the time comes. We’ve got all the Racing odds you could need waiting for you at the other end of the link there, and you’ll see that there’s already lots to talk about…
Today’s focus is Eclair Big Bang, a horse who has seen a measure of success, returning three wins from eight starts to date, which includes the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude. Trainer Philip Stokes is realistic about his charge’s prospects, but isn’t afraid to set his sights on some bigger wins than Eclair Big Bang has seen to date: ‘he came back into my stable today and he looks fantastic and has strengthened up. The horse has got some good wins in him and it just didn’t really pan out for him last prep. The pace wasn’t on and he got trapped wide in a few of them. I will be aiming him at something in Melbourne first-up early in the spring. He is a nice horse and hopefully this will be his prep.’ There’s a bit caveat, though: Eclair Big Bang looks to be a specialist sprinter, so don’t expect to see him in action over anything more than about 1200m or so – Stokes got some poor returns from him over longer distances, and sounds like he’s resigned himself to playing to the horse’s strengths: ‘I haven’t really mapped out anything in concrete yet, but we will target some of those early spring races and just see where he lies. I think that his mindset is purely sprinting and I will just be keeping him to 1200 to 1400.’
So look out for Eclair Big Bang when you’re glancing over those Racing odds: he might just be a name that crops up and looks tempting…
