Racing Odds: Bounding Makes Australian Debut
July 18th, 2014 by Pom de TurfKiwi filly Bounding ran a race that would have been heartening for trainer Ken Kelso in her first run on Australian soil, at the Royal Sovereign Stakes back in April. And she’s a horse that might make an appearance in the Racing odds that you’ll see between now and the Spring Season, especially if you’re taking stock of the horses who will be aimed at the Manikato Stakes and the VRC Sprint Classic.
Both of those races are run over 1200m, and Bounding looked like she might romp home in the Royal Sovereign Stakes (over the same distance) before she was overhauled by Sidestep and narrowly beaten, so she’s a real prospect for both. Trainer Ken Kelso will be planning to manage her carefully between now and then, we’re sure, and she’s back in New Zealand for the time being. Looking ahead, Kelso says: ‘she’s been back in work nearly a month and she’s coming along really well. I’ll just play it by ear with her. Whether she kicks off here or goes straight to Australia, it’s probably really just down to track conditions. It’s hard to set a programme for horses at this time of year here, but the plan is to get her to Australia for the two Group One sprints in Melbourne. It all hinges on how she’s coming up, but if we go straight to Australia, she’ll probably have a trial here first. Otherwise we’ll try and find a suitable 1200-metre race here for her before we go.’
What that race might be is a matter for speculation, but keep an eye out for Bounding when you’re casting a look over the Racing odds we’ve got for you, because she might be a horse that generates some interest…
