Racing Odds: Cavalryman To Tackle Melbourne Cup Next
August 13th, 2014 by Pom de TurfIt was a 1-2 for Godolphin in the Goodwood Cup, with Ahzeemah narrowly losing out to stablemate Cavalryman, and it’s Cavalryman whose name you will need to keep an eye out for in the Racing odds for the Melbourne Spring: he is likely to be aimed at the Melbourne Cup next, in the hope of cracking The Race That Stops A Nation for Sheikh Mohammed.
It seems like CavalrymanAhzeemah also in the frame for the Melbourne Cup at this stage, and you’d expect both horses to collect their fair share of attention for the big race from pundits and punters alike. After that win at Goodwood, trainer Saeed Bin Suroor, celebrating his own third Goodwood Cup, said of Cavalryman: “he is a very easy horse to train, I think a mile and six or two miles are the best trips for him. He can go for the Lonsdale Cup now and then we’ll talk to Sheikh Mohammed about going to the Melbourne Cup. Ahzeemah could also go for the Melbourne Cup. I would like to take three.’
And there was more praise heaped on Cavalryman by veteran jockey Kieren Fallon, who was on board for that Goodwood Cup win: ‘he’s a real tough horse. He was campaigned successfully in Dubai all winter and the Goodwood Cup is really a difficult race to win. He has gone from strength to strength. The pace wasn’t great but it was okay so I was happy to sit in as this horse has a great turn of foot.’
So look out for two Godolphin prospects at least for a Melbourne Cup win in 2014, Cavalryman and Ahzeemah will almost certainly be appearing in those Racing odds!
