Racing Odds: Dan Excel Sets Sights On Cox Plate
July 8th, 2014 by Pom de TurfWe’re inching closer to the end of October and the Cox Plate, and there’s one horse that we know of already in quarantine and looking to get the best possible preparations behind him for the race: Singapore Airlines International Cup winner Dan Excel has made the nine-hour flight from Hong Kong, and is settling in well at his new digs, according to Eastern Creek Quarantine Manager Damian Ford: ‘Dan Excel looks to have travelled well and he stepped off the plane in good order before being floated to Eastern Creek. He’s a seasoned horse that is quite well travelled and he’s settling in well to another foreign setting.’
Such an early arrival on our shores is a departure from the normal way of things: it gives Dan Excel and trainer John Moore a good long time to prepare themselves for the Cox Plate, and it signals a real intent from the camp to target the race. It’s good to see some early rumblings for a race like the Cox Plate, and there are odds already starting to appear on sites like Sportsbet. Dan Excel is a good addition to the field, although the bookies have a number of horses better placed than him by way of odds just at the moment. Racing Victoria International Recruitment Officer Leigh Jordon’s pretty pleased to have Dan Excel in Australia already: ‘he has proven his ability at an elite level on the world stage and will be one of the best performed internationally-trained horses to contest the Cox Plate. It’s great to have a horse of his calibre, as well as a trainer with the standing of John Moore, here for the spring and I’m looking forward to seeing him race.’
Dan Excel is currently a $17.00 bet for the Cox Plate, with more than a dozen horses on similar odds or shorter – the favourite as of today is Just A Way at $6.00. You can get all your racing odds by following the link, and we’ll be keeping you up to date on what’s happening between now and then…
