Racing Odds: Grafton Cup Winner For Waterhouse
July 22nd, 2014 by Pom de TurfIt’s only last week that we were looking ahead to the Melbourne Cup and the possibility of a second winner for Gai Waterhouse, and she’s seen some success in the last few weeks that just remind us of the strength of the stable, and that has just whet our appetite for the Spring Season, and set us looking over the Racing odds available at this early stage…
It was Queenstown who eased home to claim the Grafton Cup for Waterhouse, confirming yet again a reputation for consistency. It would have been made all the sweeter for Waterhouse, we suspect, to have won it ahead of fellow Sydney-based rival Chris Waller and his Secessio. A win at this stage for a Waterhouse runner inevitably raises questions about a trip to Melbourne in the Spring, and, with Gai Waterhouse on holiday just at the moment, it fell to Des Fisher to answer the questions of the press. He brought Queenstown’s stablemate Travolta to NSW, as well, and he sounded pleased with the shape both horses are in, and prepared to take a look ahead towards Melbourne: ‘they both felt good this morning, and if anything Travolta looked better under the saddle. But Queenstown ate up well and has done everything right since we’ve been here. She deserves this. We’ll get them home and Gai can then work out where they go, but you’d think she’d be Melbourne bound.’
That’s good enough for us, and we’ll certainly be looking out for both Queenstown and Travolta in the Racing odds on the site – just hit the link if you’d like to do the same!
