Racing Odds: River Lad An Emirates Stakes Possibility
July 25th, 2014 by Pom de TurfWe’re not seeing many Racing odds for the Emirates Stakes in November, but we’ve already mentioned a horse (here) – Speediness – who’s likely to be a prospect for the race (and who won it last year) unless a run in the Cox Plate takes him away. Well, here’s another one to watch for the Emirates Stakes on November the 8th: River Lad.
River Lad took the Stradbroke Handicap by a nose from Temple of Boom, and trainer Natalie McCall immediately set about preparing him for the next big thing, which looks likely to an appearance towards the end of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. She’s being pretty businesslike about it, but the Stradbroke Hanidcap win must have been a big thrill, and one that whet the appetite for more: ‘originally I thought the Sir Rupert Clarke would be the perfect race for him, but it would have meant he only got a very short break. Instead, we are aiming to have him at his peak for the Emirates Stakes on the last day of Cup week. I’ve learnt the best plan is to have them peaking for one race and that looks the logical one. He’s won over 1600m earlier in his career and if you’re strong enough to win a Stradbroke, it generally means you can get a mile.’
So River Lad will be one to watch as we get into the end of October. No doubt he’ll feature in your Racing odds in the build-up, but there’s plenty more to keep your interest in the meantime, so get that link clicked and get yourself right up to date!
