Racing Odds: Zebulon Still Targeting Caulfield Guineas
July 17th, 2014 by Pom de TurfThe second Saturday in October is circled in the calendar of plenty of Racing enthusiasts, and they’ll be checking their Racing odds pretty regularly between now and then, we’re sure. Another calendar that will have a big red circle around Caulfield Cup day, we reckon, is the one that belongs to Peter Morgan, trainer of exciting prospect Zebulon.
Zebulon was in action recently in the Taj Rossi Series Final, and in the run-up to the race, it was most likely a planned stepping stone for Zebulon on the way to the Caulfield Cup. Morgan wasn’t particularly ambiguous: ‘he has shown all the attributes that he could be a Guineas horse and that’s the race we’ll probably head for anyway. It becomes a bit different when Spring comes along. A few horses jump out of the ground that you don’t know about, but at this stage he’s certainly a horse you would want to be heading that way.’
Things didn’t turn out quite according to plan at the Taj Rossi Series Final, of course, with Zebulon coming in third behind Crafty and Triple Gold, but it wasn’t a run from Zebulon that would give his trainer any cause to think he wasn’t on the right track for the big race in October. Of course, winning would have made a stronger case for nomination, and Zebulon will likely have to do more work between now and October than was on the original schedule, but that’s just the way it goes, and Morgan’s keeping close tabs on his prospect: ‘we’re just keeping a close eye on him. I think he’s a good horse so we don’t really want to go there if he’s not 100 per cent, but at this stage we’re heading that way.’
Whatever happens, Zebulon will have picked up a few admirers for his run in the Taj Rossi Series Final, and he’s one to watch for the Spring – so make sure you’ve got all your Racing odds by following the link!
