State of Origin Odds: Maroons Delay Squad Announcement
June 10th, 2014 by TJ DilferIt was only a few hours, but does the delay to the announcement of the Queensland suggest some confusion in the camp – a little bit of indecision this close to the vital second encounter in this year’s State of Origin series? The State of Origin odds have swung in favour of the Blues since their epic effort in Game One, and there’s real pressure on the Maroons management and players – so injury worries won’t be helping to calm the nerves of their legions of fans…
The squad that was eventually announced includes a couple of exciting additions: rookies Ben Hunt and Anthony Milford are right in the frame both on merit and as cover for the injured Maroons players who could go either way with their availability. The trouble for Queensland is that there’s a lot of talent on the physio table as Game Two creeps closer, and it could be staying there if things don’t clear up. Billy Slater would be a huge loss if he can’t come back from a shoulder injury in time, as would Greg Inglis – a doubt because of an ankle injury – and Daly Cherry-Evans, who is carrying a knee injury. If the worst fears of Queensland fans and the management are realised, and none of those three pull up fit in time for the 18th, then we’ll see some new blood in the Maroons jersey – talk about the deep end!
