State of Origin Odds: The 100th Game
May 28th, 2014 by TJ DilferTonight’s game is set to be a belter. It’s an historic occasion – the 100th time NSW and Queensland have met in a State of Origin series, and we’re expecting another close-fought contest, and one that starts with fireworks. The Blues go in as the underdogs, but there’s lots more State of Origin Game 1 odds on offer than just the outright, not to mention State of Origin odds and futures for the series. We always like the look of a first tryscorer bet, and there’s probably some merit in betting on a tight margin for a game like this.
But how will Game 1 go? It’s fair to say that Queensland have had the better preparation, coming into the series with a settled side that repeats the strong selection of last year, and all the injury and behaviour problems have been in the NSW camp. That said, the form of Jarryd Hayne is good enough to give Blues fans cause for optimism, and the NSW squad includes some brave choices – young players getting a chance to prove themselves on the toughest proving ground in rugby – and that always means there’s something in the first game. Pundits, fans and players all go in not quite knowing what to expect – though it’s fair to say we’ll see some great high-pressure rugby played at an incredible pace and with awesome physicality. But then, without those things, it just wouldn’t be the State of Origin, would it?
