State Of Origin Odds: The NSW Blues
May 15th, 2014 by TJ DilferThis article was going to focus on the woes of NSW coach Laurie Daley as the biggest event in Australian rubgy league draws closer (and he has, in fairness, had his share of disruptions to his preparations), but it looks like the clouds over his head might be clearing a little bit. His Blues side are still the outside bet at odds of $2.60 to score a series win, but things could certainly be worse for Daley this week!
There are all sorts of State of Origin odds on offer already, and you’ll see that the bookies are coming down in favour of Queensland pretty consistently, and Daley must have felt at the start of this week like the stars were aligned against him. Injuries are one thing, and there’s no use coaching a rugby league side and losing your temper every time a player goes down injured in what is an incredibly tough game. But Daley could have lived without a drink-fuelled scandal, or a judicial review of a dangerous tackle. As it turns out, Mitchell Pearce is available for the State of Origin series after the matter was dealt with by his club, and Greg Bird will only miss Game 1 after his hearing downgraded the charge that could have seen him out for the whole series.
So things are looking up a little for the Blues – all they have to do now is overturn form, history and the bookies’ odds to end an incredible Queensland run of series victories. No problem.
