Racing Odds: Melbourne Cup Winner Dunaden Retires
August 13th, 2014 by Pom de TurfIt goes without saying that a race like the Melbourne Cup makes memories. And there have been some indelible memories made for all of us over the years – a few of them made by the same horse, Dunaden. It was Dunaden who won the closest Melbourne Cup finish, and it was Dunaden who represented a generation of overseas raiders, winning the Caulfield Cup the year after he snuck the Melbourne Cup. So it was with real sadness that we read the news of Dunaden’s retirement from racing through injury, and that sadness will be repeated every time we look down a list of Racing odds for any of the big races in the Melbourne Spring that doesn’t feature that familiar name.

August 13th, 2014 by Pom de TurfIt was a 1-2 for Godolphin in the Goodwood Cup, with Ahzeemah narrowly losing out to stablemate Cavalryman, and it’s Cavalryman whose name you will need to keep an eye out for in the Racing odds for the Melbourne Spring: he is likely to be aimed at the Melbourne Cup next, in the hope of cracking The Race That Stops A Nation for Sheikh Mohammed.

August 9th, 2014 by Pom de TurfGreen Moon is one veteran campaigner who will most likely be making the trip to Australia for the Melbourne Spring, and most likely aiming at the Caulfield Cup, but we’re hearing news that another veteran might be sidelined in 2014, and not feature at all in the Racing odds for the Melbourne Cup as we get closer to the big day…
Simenon’s owners face the prospect of Read the rest of this entry »

August 9th, 2014 by Pom de TurfWe’ve recently drawn attention to the Caulfield Cup as the most likely destination for Green Moon (see that post here), and the worthy veteran will hopefully get the chance to show his class on October 18th. But the reality is that there will be rising talent out to make his owners and trainers regret the decision to aim him at the Caulfield Cup, and one of those will likely be promising filly Lucia Valentina: check out the Racing odds for the Caulfield Cup by following the link!

August 9th, 2014 by Pom de TurfThe Melbourne Spring is as big a stage as any in international racing, and it’s a big step for a horse (and for a trainer) when they make a first appearance at the Festival. That’s what this year’s Spring Season has in store for lightly-raced prospect Martian, but he won’t likely make an appearance in the bigger races, so don’t expect to see his name in those Racing odds.
Trainer Tony McEvoy purchased Martian last year, most likely on the back of Read the rest of this entry »

August 8th, 2014 by Pom de TurfFrench horses inevitably add a little bit of Gallic flair to the Spring Season, and it’s good to see them making the trip to Australia as we get closer to the Melbourne Cup and the Caulfield Cup. And there’s one horse that will almost certainly be making the trip to be involved in both – Singing has appeared already in the Racing odds we’ve got for you, and is creating some good buzz ahead of Read the rest of this entry »

August 7th, 2014 by Pom de TurfThe Melbourne Cup is a huge event, and it’s always a pleasure to see horses arriving in Australia from all around the world to make a bid for a win in The Race That Stops A Nation. What’s also great to see, though, is those horses who are in the running in the Melbourne Cup for a number of years – those horses that are good enough to run at the highest level year after year, and that will feature in the Racing odds as November comes around again this year. One of those horses is the veteran Red Cadeaux, who is aiming for a fourth straight run in the Melbourne Cup.
Red Cadeaux has been Read the rest of this entry »

August 6th, 2014 by Pom de TurfIn June, 4-year-old stayer Van Percy changed hands, moving to OTI Racing – and you’d think he was bought with the Melbourne Spring very much in mind. If that is the case, and Van Percy is going to be aimed at the Melbourne Cup come November, then his new owners will be well pleased with his form, and he’ll start to feature more heavily in the Racing odds for the Melbourne Spring if he can turn in a couple more wins…
Van Percy ran a Read the rest of this entry »

July 31st, 2014 by Pom de TurfIrish import Voleuse De Coeurs has been stealing hearts (see what we did there?) in Australia for a while now, and her preparations for another attempt at the biggest race of the year will begin with the Makybe Diva Stakes in September. She’s already appearing in the Racing odds for the Melbourne Cup, too: Voleuse De Coeurs is a $51.00 bet for the Race That Stops A Nation as of today, but there’s plenty of time for Read the rest of this entry »

July 29th, 2014 by Pom de TurfThe half-brother of Australia (who’s the horse of the moment in Europe), Our Voodoo Prince will be looking to make a step up in class and challenge for both the Caulfield Cup and the Melbourne Cup in the Spring. And Our Voodoo Prince is already a feature in the Racing Odds for both big races: he’s currently the joint $13.00 favourite for the Caulfield Cup, and a $21.00 bet in the Melbourne Cup field as of today.
But it sounds like Read the rest of this entry »
