The Ashes: The Whitewash Is On!
January 3rd, 2014 by G WaldorfThe Ashes roadshow comes to Sydney for the fifth and final Test today, and Australian captain Michael Clarke finds himself in a place he might not even have dared to dream about after the tour of England in the winter. The Aussies are on the verge of an incredible – and it has to be said unlikely – 5-0 series victory. Can Clarke’s men manage the final hurdle at the SCG? Or will it be the English who finish a disappointing tour on a high note?
There are a few pieces of business left to attend to in the series, even though the result isn’t in doubt any longer, and the Ashes have already been regained. David Warner is the favourite – at $1.11 to be Australia’s leading run-scorer in the series, and it will take some heavy scoring for either Michael Clarke or Brad Haddin to overtake him: they are both $12.00 bets on Sportsbet right now. In the first innings of the fifth Test, Warner is a $4.50 to register a century, where you’ll get $10.00 for Brad Haddin to reach three figures, and $4.00 for the Aussie skipper. Here’s an interesting bet: the Aussie opening partnership is $1.82 to out-score Cook and Carberry, where you’ll get $1.98 for the English pair to get their act together. We can see that going either way, and there might be value in either opening pair…
And when the dust settles in Sydney, it’s back to the MCG for the start of the ODI series: you’ll get $8.50 for Australia to win that 5-0, too…
