The Ashes: What Bets Are On Offer?
November 17th, 2013 by G WaldorfWe’ll be watching the first over of the Ashes series, which kicks off in Brisbane on the 21st November. It’ll probably not be the most interesting sporting spectacle of the day, let alone of the series. But you just have to watch that first ball, even if it’s well wide of off stump and sensibly let go by whoever is opening the batting.
And we’ll be looking to put a bet or two down for the Ashes series, and for each Test as they come up. But there are some interesting, more light-hearted bets available on Sportsbet right now that can really brighten up a day of Test cricket, even if the English are trudging along at two runs an over.
Take the first over. Would you bet there will be fewer than two runs scored? If you’re tempted to make it a little more interesting, you’ll get $1.88 that one or no runs are scored. But you’ll get the same odds if you think there will be at least two on the scoreboard at the end of the first over – and what are the chances that there will be an edge down to a vacant third man that picks up a lucky boundary? We can see it going either way…
There’s plenty more where that came from at Sportsbet, which offers you a decent choice of bets on top of the straights: you can bet on the toss ($1.95 whichever way you’re betting), on the highest opening partnership ($1.90 for either team), and on a first-innings lead. We like that last one, as it’s a $1.88 for both sides, and we can see the English starting badly – as they have done in a good number of recent series – and letting us get our noses in front after the first innings. Australia are a $2.50 bet to win the first game, which might be a more risky bet, but if you’re not ready to pick the result yet, then Sportsbet has lots more interesting wagers that you can keep yourself busy with!
