World Cup: England Odds And Futures
May 8th, 2014 by G WaldorfWe hear a lot about English football here in Australia. They reckon they’ve got themselves the best league football in the world in the EPL, and there’s no shortage of Aussie players who have made the trip to the UK to play for clubs there – Mile Jedinak is a great example of a man who has made a name for himself, captaining the Crystal Palace side, and Tim Cahill put in some great years at Everton. Both of those men will be travelling to the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, but we’re not looking at the Socceroos today – it’s the turn of the England side, and we’re looking at the England World Cup odds and futures on offer…
It’s always hard to know which England side will show up. A great side on paper, it could be argued that England are perennial underachievers on the international stage – or it could be argued that the expectations of their fans are far too high! Either way, England are definitely in the mix at the 2014 World Cup. FIFA has them ranked 11th, and that’s exactly where the bookies have them in the futures, giving them odds of $34.00 to win their first international trophy since 1966. That’s the same as Portugal, but England are getting slightly longer odds to get out of the group, at $1.57. If they win the group, then they’ll play the runner-up in Group C – it looks like an easier route to the quarter finals than the one faced by the Socceroos, that’s for sure!
