World Cup Odds: A New Look Socceroos
May 20th, 2014 by G WaldorfSocceroos coach Ange Postecoglu seems clear in his goals for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil: ‘if people are excited about this team after the World Cup then I think from my perspective that means progress.’ And he’s prepared to walk the walk, too, selecting a young, exciting squad of players to represent Australia at the World Cup. Looking at Australia’s World Cup odds, those youngsters will be up against it, but Postecoglu looks to be embracing that challenge rather than shying away from it…
And the selection of a young squad marks a real shift in the culture of the Socceroos – a shift that sees the end of some long and illustrious careers. None more so than Lucas Neill, who wore the captain’s armband for Australia with distinction for a good spell. Careers can’t go on indefinitely, of course, and there’s a theory that says the regeneration should be embraced wholeheartedly: that’s obviously a philosophy that Ange Postecoglu is happy to embrace, and we’re right behind him.
