World Cup Odds: Socceroos Injury Worries
June 5th, 2014 by TJ DilferThe soccer season is incredibly long. It might only be us who are old enough to remember when there was a break between seasons, and there were weeks on end without a single soccer game to watch. It might be good for the fans hungry for entertainment, but it makes it tough for players who are carrying those inevitable injuries to get the chance to recover – and it’s possible that Australia’s World Cup odds are going to be affected by injuries: in fact, you could say they already have been.
Tom Rogic is already a casualty, not making the final squad of 23, but coming heartbreakingly close – he is still with the squad but won’t take any part in the tournament. It’s a sad story, as you’d call Rogic one of Australia’s most talented young prospects, but he has been struggling with his form – mostly because he has been battling injury, too.
And Mile Jedinak ended the club season at Crystal Palace under an injury cloud. There are few more influential players than Jedinak in the Socceroos side – especially if Australia are going to tackle those long odds and return with some measure of success. Jedinak is a driven guy, but Australia need him to be able to lead from the front, so his fitness will no doubt be carefully monitored…
