World Cup: Tickets Selling Fast!
March 18th, 2014 by G WaldorfThe fourth round of ticket sales for the FIFA World Cup 2014 has been and gone in a flash, and if you tried and failed to score yourself a ticket to a Socceroos game, then you were by no means alone! The good old social media were abuzz with frustrated Australia fans who had hoped to secure tickets to watch the Socceroos in action, but the quality of the teams in Group B could well be working against Aussies, and making for some desirable tickets – the Spain game in particular was very much over-subscribed, and sold out in minutes, if not seconds. We feel for the fans who didn’t manage to land the tickets they were after, especially those that were the victims of some technological failings by the FIFA website. Even worse, there are already tickets appearing on ebay at vastly inflated prices – no-one likes to see that when a website crash denied them the tickets in the first place…
And whilst we’re sure that the Socceroos will more than play their part in the story of Group B, we have to admit that it’s a tough group for Ange Postecoglu’s developing side. Also in Group B are Spain, the Netherlands and Chile, sides that have no trouble drawing in the spectators, and that have some real pedigree behind them. The Socceroos are a $501.00 bet to win the trophy, but they’ll be looking more closely at that first game against Chile, we’re sure – you can get $6.00 for them to win that first game on June 14th, whilst Chile are the $1.53 favourites. And, we hardly need to tell you, it gets harder for the Socceroos when they play the Netherlands and Spain: will you be placing a patriotic bet for Australia to beat the Netherlands at $7.50? How about a long shot of $10.00 to beat the holders Spain? We won’t tell anyone if you bet against the Socceroos – a bet for the Netherlands to beat Australia is $1.36, and Spain’s odds are even shorter, at $1.25.
We’ll be taking a closer look at those Group B opponents in these pages between now and the start of the tournament in Brazil, and there’s our full breakdown of the Socceroos odds for you, too…
