Rugby league betting could see plenty staked on the Eels thanks to their fine form, but the premiership could still be a step too far according to some commentators.Parramatta have won six on the bounce to get themselves into semi-final calculations but former Eels players Brett Kenny and Steve Ella told NRL.com the task is still too great.
The side remain out at 14.00 to clinch the title with Betfair, with the Dragons at 3.6 and the Bulldogs at 4.4.
According to NRL.com, no side has ever won the premiership having finished outside the top four – and the Eels would have to win another six in a row to win it.
Quoted by the site, Kenny said: "I would never say that a team outside the top four can’t make the grand final but I think it’s very difficult to win.
"Any side outside the top four is already under a lot of pressure every single week."
Parramatta take on the Panthers on Friday night and both teams need a win to maintain their chances of making the top eight.
Ella told NRL.com both sides would find it tough to go all the way if they did make the placings: "Toss a coin, it’s all guesswork. It will be very difficult though."
