Melbourne Cup betting tips
All eyes will be on Caulfield Cup winner Admire Rakti as the Japanese stayer attempts to break all sorts of records by carrying 58.5kg but that welter burden may not stop this class performer. We think Lucia Valentina is also good value with only 53kg and should be backed each way at $7.00. Cavalryman is one of the few definite stayers in this race and should be included in exotic bets. Fawkner, the only realistic Australian chance should place but may not stay the last 200m.

Melbourne Cup tips:
Simenon is the best staying horse in the race and has won at 4000m and 4300m at Royal Ascot - Had a great prep in the Herbert Power and is good each value at $17.00.
The Caulfield Cup is a good guide to this race and Dandino was slashing home in second place after being given a poor ride - if he stays the 3200m we think he wins the race, and at odds of $12.00 we're happy to back him each way.
Verema is the only horse The Aga Khan has ever sent to Australia, and the trainer sent Americain to win the race in 2010. Verema's previous two starts are both Group 2 wins in France one of which, The Kergloy over 3000m, is the best foreign Cup trial going (Americain and Dunaden both won it). Serious chance at $13.00

Horse racing tipsters are divided over who will scoop the $5.5 million Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, with half a dozen horses attracting the experts' attention.
Betfair's Kristen Manning has said Bart Cummings-trained Viewed will be hard to beat – he was last year's winner of the Flemington spectacular and has come on since then, she says.
Manning wrote: "Last year he looked good, but still a little backward - the Scenic breed known for improving considerably as they mature.
"This year he stands out - on Caulfield Cup day he was the eye-catcher in the yard and on Saturday his coat was gleaming."
Betfair is offering odds of 5.40 on Viewed – the current race favourite with most bookmakers.
Elsewhere and the tipsters at Fox Sports are less certain as to who will do well in the 3200m nation-stopper.
John Clark has gone for Roman Emperor, with Viewed in second, while Scott Heinrich has picked out Shocking. Andy Withers has also picked Viewed to win.
Betfair has Roman Emperor on 9.60, and Shocking is on odds of 11.00.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has also got behind Shocking, and was quoted in the Courier Mail as saying: "Four years old, and has done very well recently in the Lexus Quality and I believe is the horse to watch come the big race tomorrow in Melbourne."
