Last season's AFL Premiers Geelong have been on a recruitment drive as they bid to defend their title next year.

Marcus Drum, a 22-year-old utility, has been signed from Freemantle after initially seeing a lack of game time at the top level.

The Cats have recruited him in exchange for pick 49 in next month's NAB AFL Draft.

Geelong are the favourites for next year's competition with many bookmakers, although many have them on level odds with beaten finalists St Kilda for next year.

Centrebet has them at 3.90 to clinch a second title in a row in 2010, and Drum believes he is more than capable of playing a key role.

He told geelongcats.com.au : "I've played 22 games in four years … I’ve missed games with injury and form and stuff like that, but I think when I have played I’ve been pretty serviceable.

"It’s just a matter of getting that consistent run together of games which I suppose hasn’t happened over four years."

Tying down a regular place won't be easy in a winning side, but Drum added he feels his destiny is in his own hands.

"I’ll work hard for it, so I’ll be going out there to train hard and earn respect off the players and the coaching staff," he added

Centrebet is also offering AFL odds of 3.70 for St Kilda, while Western Bulldogs are the third favourites at 6.50.
