Double Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Kauto Star looks set to run for the first time this season at the Haydock meeting on November 21.The Betfair Chase is traditionally the first Gold Cup test of the season, albeit five months before the Cheltenham Festival. It's a race that Kauto Star has won before, but not last year, when stand-in jockey Sam Thomas was unseated at the last. That race was won by Snoopy Loopy, who reappears at Wetherby today.
Kauto Star's main adversary, Denman, looks like returning in The Hennessey Chase at Newbury next month.
Frankie Dettori is jetting off to Melbourne today after a good looking set of rides this afternoon at Newmarket. But he won't be making the trip to Australia to partner Kirklees, who has just been pulled out of the main event by trainer Saeed Bin Suroor who was not overly happy with how the colt looked. So Kerrin McEvoy looks like being jocked off Crime Scene and replaced by the Italian.
The legendary Bart Cummings is looking to win his 13th Melbourne Cup, a truly amazing achievement in such a competitive race. The Melbourne Cup is the finale of the Victoria Spring Racing carnival.
