The dual Cheltenham Gold Cup Hero reappears at Haydock as 2.20 favourite but faces a tough challenge from a crack Irish raider.Notre Pere appears to be the only serious danger to the two-times Cheltenham Gold Cup favourite at Haydock today, as the horses will have to plough through the Lancashire track's notorious heavy going.
The latest Betfair odds show Kauto Star as a short priced 2.20 favourite, with Irish mudlark Notre Pere a 3.00 chance. Imperial Commander continues to drift in the betting due to ground concerns. Concerns, however, which will not be shared by soft ground specialist Halcon Generlardais who continues to attract support at 15.00.
Despite falling last time out at Downroyal, Notre Pere is all the rage in the betting for a race in which Kauto Star unseated rider Sam Thomas in 2008. Opinions are mixed on whether Kauto Star would have won anyway, and Haydock has a tendency to sap the strength of even the best chasers.
