Leigh Jordon, Racing Victoria's international recruitment officer, will be making his annual trip to Europe in hope of attracting the best horses to the Spring Racing Carnival.Jordon is set to spend three weeks in Europe where he will visit the UK, Germany and France among others. Main target this year will be Hardwicke Stakes winner Dartmouth. Owned by the Queen, if Jordon can secure its presence this will be only the second time we see the Queen with a horse in the Melbourne Cup.
"I’d love to get Dartmouth to Australia," Jordon said. "For one, I think he’s the right sort of horse, and to have the Queen’s horse come to Australia in the year of her 90th birthday would be fantastic."
Dartmouth could well be heading for Ascot and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in July, so Jordon may well have his work cut out.
Jordon added: "The main concern is that he will probably run in the King George next and then possibly the Arc. That being said, the Hardwicke into the King George is the same form lines that Snow Sky came through last year en route to the Melbourne Cup.
"The Hardwicke is a ballot exempt race into the Caulfield Cup and that looks a perfect race for him."
Dunlop and Charlton also on the wish list
Jordon will also be hoping to attract other to British talent over to Victoria for the Spring Racing Carnival.
"Ed Dunlop has a few horses in contention," he said. "Trip To Paris, who ran fourth in last year’s Melbourne Cup, is back in training which is great. His other horse, Red Verdon, was impressive when fourth in the Irish Derby behind Harzand. I’m looking forward to the Princess Of Wales's Stakes to understand whether he is a carnival contender."
Roger Charlton's Time Test, who we reported will be heading to the Juddmonte International is also a target for a run in the Cox Plate.
