Local horses could have the edge in the Railway Stakes at Ascot on Saturday, one Perth trainer has said.History suggests Western Australian runners have the edge in the $1 million race, and Neville Parnham has revealed why he thinks his horse Elliotto has a good chance.
Elliotto shouldered into the running for the race with a narrow win last weekend and is one of a clutch of strong local horses.
Parnham, quoted by racenet.com.au, said: "The Railway Stakes lead-up schedule is now perfect for the Perth horses, we went that way to qualifying Elliotto because the races were all handicaps.
"Running him in handicaps has made it a lot easier to qualify him for the Railway Stakes because he has carried light weights throughout his preparation and now we have a fit and in-form horse at the right time. He's a top chance."
He added he felt eastern horses can come to the Railway as an "afterthought", whereas some local runners have their whole seasons planned around the group 1 race.
Latest betting at IASbet shows Elliotto at 21.00, with eastern horse Gold Salute on 3.20 and still the favourite, down from 4.00.
