The group 2 Schweppes Stakes provides one of the most gripping sub-plots to the Cox Plate on Saturday, with one horse looking for back-to-back victories. If Lucky Secret can clinch victory in the 1200m run at Moonee Valley, the sprinter will become the first horse in almost two decades to win two Schweppes Stakes consecutively.
Prepared by Tony Vasil, the horse will face the dual challenge of Mic Mac and stablemate Apache Cat, both trained by Greg Eurell.
Quoted by Racing and Sports, Aquanita's Sam Doran said of Lucky Secret: "He won this race last year after finishing second in the Schillaci Stakes.
"This year he broke the track record at Caulfield and is arguably going a shade better this time around. He loves the track and the cushion of the Strathayr and the way he's going he'll take catching again."
Sportsbet has Lucky Secret as the favourite on 3.30, while Apache Cat is on odds of 3.70 with the same bookmaker.
Mic Mac follows on 8.00, level with Ortensia, while a further four runners are on odds between 10.00 to 11.00.
Danleigh is at 10.00 along with Duporth and Bank Robber, while Light Fantastic is at 11.00.
