US Open betting odds have Lleyton Hewitt at $151.00 as Federer, Murray and Nadal head the markets.
The US Open tennis 2010 begins on August 30 and runs for two weeks through until September 12. It will, as ever, be played at Flushing Meadows, New York on an outdoor hard court surface.
The US Open presents the final opportunity of the season for tennis players to claim a Grand Slam title. Ever since the Wimbledon championships drew to a close the world’s best players have been focussing their attentions on getting to the US Open in peak physical and mental condition.
The men’s defending champion is Juan Martin Del Potro who will unfortunately be unable to defend his title due to a wrist injury which has kept him out of the game all season. The women’s defending champion is Kim Clijsters who won the title in 2009 for a second time, the first coming in 2005 before she took an extended break from the game.
Few of you reading this will be surprised to learn that it is Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal who top the betting markets on the men’s side. Bet365.com offer odds of $3.50 on each player. However, Britain’s Andy Murray isn’t far behind in the US Open betting at odds of $4.50. Murray plays his best tennis on the hard court surface, a point which he emphasised by making it to the final of this year’s Australian Open, and will be primed to have a good run in this tournament.
Of the players at bigger odds Novak Djokovic made it to the semi-final last year and was a beaten finalist in 2007, he can be backed at $10.0 with Bet365, and Sam Querrey, who beat Murray in the final of the Farmers Classic in late July, can be backed at $67.0
The women’s US Open 2010 Betting is a little more open. Three-time winner Serena Williams is the favourite at odds of $2.62 with Bet365, but beyond her there are as many as four other players available at single figure odds.
Last year’s champion Clijsters is second favourite at $5.00, Russian Maria Sharapova is $8.00, whilst Venus Williams and Victoria Azarenka are both $9.00.
An interesting fact relating to the women’s US Open final is that not since the 1995 final between Steffi Graff and Monica Seles has the final been played over three sets. For 14 years in a row now the women’s final has been won in straight sets.
It promises to be an action packed two weeks at Flushing Meadows and a perfect chance to watch the world’s elite battle it out for the US Open crown.
