Just glancing at the odds for this fight, you might be forgiven for thinking that Jose Aldo will simply overpower Ricardo Lamas on his way to a title defence come February 2nd and UFC 169. And Aldo is certainly capable of just that – he’s a fighter who has put in some great performances, and who definitely has the explosive power to dispatch any opponent. That’s why he’s the $1.14 favourite.

But Ricardo Lamas has been waiting for his shot at the title for a long time, and he’s not going to want miss out when it comes. And he’s a guy who maybe doesn’t get the credit he deserves. What we don’t expect to see when he locks horns with Aldo for the title is the sort of one-sided fight that the odds suggest. It might seem like a bold bet, but there could be some real value in Ricardo Lamas at $5.20.
