Confidence in Vigor is high ahead of the stayer's attempt at the the $1 million Emirates Stakes on Saturday.Jockey and trainer have backed the Makybe Stakes winner after he just missed out on a shot at the Melbourne Cup after landing in 25th on the order of entry.
Vigor is also being courted by horse racing bookmakers for the race, on odds of 10.00 at IASbet.com to make him joint third favourite with Rightfully Yours.
Jockey Danny Nikolic said: Hopefully this will make up for the disappointment of missing the Melbourne Cup for Vigor's connections.
''He had been working in outstanding fashion last week so I'd expect him to run a great race on Saturday.
''I know he's back from the 2400m of the Caulfield Cup to the mile in the Emirates but all that means is he will run it out very strongly. He also loves Flemington so that's in his favour.''
Trainer Danny O'Brien also said via his official website: "The horse is in the best shape of his life and given his affinity with Flemington we are confident he will run well."
However, Vigor will need to overcome the Bart Cummings-trained So You Think, if he is to win the 1600m race at Flemington.
