British favourite Andy Murray has drawn Juan Martin Del Porto, current sixth favouite at 13.00, with Murray third in the betting on 4.25.
Elsewhere, Spaniard Rafael Nadal is to begin against Swede Robin Soderling in a group B match on Monday.
Scot Murray can count on home support at the O2 Arena in London, and could help to knock Federer off the world No 1 spot as he has been drawn in the same group as the Wimbledon winner.
The tournament format is a two-group round-robin programme played over a week.
Murray said of the competitiuon: “It’s good to be in London and it is a good sign for tennis in Britain if it can sell more than 250,000 tickets over the eight days.
“That’s incredible and it shows there must be a lot of interest and not just around Wimbledon. It’s just getting people to play tennis competitively that seems the hard part.”
